The Pearl Source Launches ‘Power Pearls’, a Curated Collection Inspired by Iconic Women of Influence

Vice President Kamala Harris

Kamala Harris selected for first curation ahead of International Women’s Day

Los Angeles, Calif. – March, 2021 – The Pearl Source, one of the largest online pearl retailers and distributors in the United States and leading member of Jewelers of America, today introduced Power Pearls, a curated collection of pearl jewelry inspired by women of influence throughout history. The Power Pearls collection honors on a rotating basis iconic female figures who have empowered women socially, economically, politically, and culturally – beginning with the newly elected Vice President of the United States. A portion of Power Pearl proceeds will go toward Dress for Success, a global not-for-profit organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire, and development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

The announcement comes at the start of Women’s History Month and just before International Women’s Day on March 8. This year’s inspiration for International Women’s Day is #ChooseToChallenge, based on the belief that “a challenged world is an alert world. And from challenge comes change.”

“Pearls have long been a symbol of beauty, resilience, career mobility, and female empowerment,” said Leon Rbibo, President of The Pearl Source. “Power Pearls aims to not only generate money to support important women’s issues but also to draw attention and awareness to these powerful female figures. All too often their contributions don’t get the spotlight they deserve, be it on the political spectrum, the athletic arena, or the business world.”

From #ChucksandPearls to the women’s suffrage movement, pearls have historically been a ubiquitous symbol for women’s empowerment across the globe. In fact, the women’s rights movement was the inspiration behind the vintage pearl pins recently worn by celebrity activists from Tom Hanks to Reese Witherspoon on the red carpet. More recently, hundreds of thousands of women showed their support for Kamala Harris and women’s equality by wearing pearls on inauguration day. Harris has long been known to feature pearls as part of her wardrobe.

In 2020, The Pearl Source joined forces with Chrissy Metz, Minnie Driver, and Zoey Deutch along with retailers such as Louis Vuitton, Rag and Bone, The RealReal, and Manolo Blahnik to support Dress for Success. Dress for Success sold jewelry donated by The Pearl Source as part of Dress for Success’s Women, Wine and Wardrobe event. Proceeds from the sales were used to provide women with training, development, and professional clothing and accessories for job interviews and everyday workplace attire.

The Kamala-inspired line runs from March 1 through the end of the month, after which a new curation will be announced
