Peter Jackson the Jeweller to close half its branches

Peter Jackson the Jeweller, this year marking 40 years since it was founded, is reportedly set to close half of its stores.

The Preston-founded retailer opened its first shop in 1982. A Blackburn branch followed six years later, while Carlisle and Bury got their own stores in 2002 and 2010.

It is these last two sites that are now set to close their doors permanently.

Local news source the News & Star reported that the company had stated: “We have been a part of so many special occasions – engagements, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, graduations, Valentine’s, Mother’s and Father’s days and many more – each one unique to the people involved and each one a joy to be included in.

“We have valued thousands of precious treasures and repaired many more, serviced thousands of watches and fitted batteries in many more.

“We have employed many wonderful, hardworking and dedicated staff, some still with us and others have moved on to pastures new.

“And now, with a heavy heart, it is time for us to move on. We have loved being a part of these two wonderful communities.

“We will leave behind many happy memories and wish everyone here a happy, healthy and prosperous future.”
