Lightbox is to sell bigger lab grown diamonds – up to two carats – at the same flat rate of $800 per carat.
It is also introducing a premium lab grown range, called Finest, of stones guaranteed to be VVS clarity, colorless D, E, F with an excellent cut.
Both moves suggest the De Beers company sees increasing potential in the lab grown sector.
Last November it opened a $94m factory near Portland, Oregon, USA, capable of producing 200,000 carats a year.
The industry was shocked back in 2018 when De Beers, which had enjoyed a near-monopoly of the mined diamond industry, announced that it would start manufacturing and selling lab-growns.

For example, a a two-carat round brilliant lab-grown diamond pendant will retail for $1,600 plus the cost of the setting.
The new Finest range, of one-carat pink, blue and white stones will cost $1,500 per carat.
All new offerings will be available on the Lightbox website from late October and via retail partners, both online and physically, from early next year.
